Weddings at the Caledonian Club Belgravia – The Caledonian Club was founded as a proprietary club in 1891 and became a members club in 1917 after an appeal by the Marquis of Tullibardine. The majority of members are Scottish or have close ties with Scotland and some notable members have included the inventor of television, John Logie Baird and the leader of the Labour Party, John Smith. Today it plays hosts to a number of functions, including weddings and so it was that I found myself in the Caledonian Club Belgravia as a wedding photographer.
The club is situated in the heart of Belgravia, opposite Buckingham Palace and adjacent to Hyde Park Corner. As far as exclusive locations go, this couldn’t get any better. For me, as a London wedding photographer, it was a real honour to have access to this wonderful venue as well as usage of Belgrave Square Gardens.
The grand architecture of the building, both inside and out and the glorious autumn colours of the gardens proved to be a wedding photographer’s dream with so many stunning backdrops to choose from. The club looks very much as I expect it would have done back in the 1890s, with many original features, comfortably furnished rooms, large airy windows and as the centrepiece, a grand staircase with highly ornate banisters.
Sarah and Martin had their wedding ceremony at the Holy Trinity Sloane Square Church which favoured me with beautifully balanced lighting from which I was able to capture the magnificence of the indulgent interiors with resplendent stained glass windows and imposing gothic arches. From there we hopped aboard a traditional red London bus to take us to The Caledonian Club which they had selected for their wedding venue.
Being the Caledonian Club Belgravia wedding photographer was an unforgettable and magical experience and my warmest thanks go to Sarah and Martin for asking me to be their wedding photographer and for proving to be such a delightful couple to work with. Thanks also to the staff at The Caledonian Club Belgravia for the genuine welcome I received.
Here are a few of my most favourite shots from the day.
