March this year I got an email from Tara telling me about her wedding plans. Although the date hadn’t quite been confirmed at that point both Tara and fiancé Mark were heading up to Scotland to confirm dates that weekend.
Tara, originally from California and Mark from Glasgow the couple met in London only a short while ago. They then uprooted and decided on setting up home in Singapore, slightly warmer than London and certainly warmer than Glasgow.
The wedding date was finally agreed and 11th August was to be when California and Glasgow would meet.
I travelled up the day before, catching a ridiculously early flight out of Gatwick, but I was keen to get up to Scotland and meet the couple, and have a look around the venues they had chosen for their wedding day. The wedding ceremony was to be held at the chapel in Glasgow University and the wedding reception at Mar Hall.
I was joined by my good friend Jim Davies, a very talented Glasgow wedding photographer himself. Jim and I had only just got back recently from photographing a wedding at Skibo Castle in the Highlands.
University of Glasgow Memorial Chapel
I’ve heard a lot about the University of Glasgow Memorial Chapel from my Scottish wedding photographer friends so was looking forward to shooting Tara and Mark’s wedding there. The Chapel is a permanent memorial to the students and staff of the University who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars. With guests sitting either side of the Chapel I had a clear view from my position at the back of the Chapel. From a photographers perspective it’s a beautiful venue with the stunning stained glass windows above the bride and groom, which interestingly, represent the entirety of human life as a spiritual enterprise.
Mar Hall
Mar Hall is a 5 star hotel and golf club stood on the banks of the River Clyde with amazing views of the surrounding Kilpatrick Hills. Again I’d heard great stories about Mar Hall and so was really pleased to be able to shoot at two of Glasgow’s most iconic wedding venues, in one day. Walking through the hotel it has a certain charm about it, very regal and classic. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful to both Jim and I.
Although Tara and Mark’s wedding day happened to coincide with the tail end of a hurricane, which did make some of the photos interesting I was impressed with the couples attitude towards the photography. At one point I thought we were going to get stranded under a tree on the golf course as the weather closed in around us. You will see from the photos the menacing skies. This wasn’t going to happen though, as Tara took off her shows and started running.
And so on to a glimpse of Tara and Marks wedding in Scotland. Of course I’d like to thank them both for entrusting me to capture their wedding day. They truly are a warm loving couple and a wedding I simply didn’t want to leave.
I hope you like the photos and please do leave a comment on the blog.
