In my job as a London wedding photographer I am lucky enough to be able to visit many great destinations in Britain and abroad.
I’ve photographed all sorts of different wedding venues and of course I do have my favourites. Eltham Palace is definitely on my short list of the one of the best wedding venues in the UK.
Eltham Palace was Henry VIII’s childhood home and is one of the few remaining medieval royal palaces which is remarkably intact. What better place to be wed than in a medieval royal palace? The modern Art Deco house is where weddings are now performed, which epitomises the contemporary style of the 1930s in sophistication and elegance.
Not only is the house stunningly gorgeous but the owners responsible for the 1930s building also renovated the gardens, adding ornamental plantations, a spring bulb meadow, sunken rose garden, wide lawns, a woodland garden and much more. You could wander around all day and find inspiration in almost everything that you see.
It was at Eltham Palace that Kat and Chris took their wedding vows and I was given the chance to become the Eltham Palace Wedding Photographer. Having met the couple before the wedding day I knew what to expect and even managed to rope my dad in to play the piano for them!
I’ve been the Eltham Palace wedding photographer before but I’d not had the chance to shoot the actual wedding ceremony here, so I was really looking forward to that. The Entrance Hall was the venue for the ceremony, which may sound strange but this is unlike any entrance hall you’ve ever seen! It is a circular, wood-panelled room framed on either side by a pair of curved staircases and is flooded with light from a well placed glass and concrete dome. The room was the brainchild of Swedish Architect Rolf Engströmer who must also have dabbled with photography because the room is a joy to capture on camera.
The spring sunshine was out to welcome us that day and although the gardens were just coming into bud, they looked amazing for the couple portraits of Kat and Chris that I managed to take.
The whole day was just lovely and I must extend my heartfelt thanks to both Kat and Chris for choosing me as their Eltham Palace wedding photographer. I wish you both all the very best for the future.
