Miray & Adam
I first heard from Miray and Adam when my good friend and extremely talented photographer George Fairbairn from Extraordinary Portraits passed on my details to them. Thanks George. The couple and I met around Miray’s family home in Surrey where we had a good chat about their wedding plans. Their wedding was some 9 months away so plenty of time for us all to get to know each other. They told me about the plans for the Egyptian wedding ceremony which was to be held at the family church in Surrey (St Mary and St Shenouda Church), followed by the wedding reception which was going to at the very unique London wedding venue, Eastwinter Gardens in Canary Wharf. even discussed the possibility of a detour between the Church and EastWinterGarden via a Lavender field. As the lavender was in bloom it could be perfect, however, we would have to wait until the day itself to make the decision, based on the weather.
I was of course delighted when the couple asked me to be their honorary Egyptian wedding photographer for the day, I like to think it was based on their love of my contemporary wedding photography style :-). All weddings come with their challenges and this is what I love about being a wedding photographer. Having four locations to shoot at, certainly does raise the old blood pressure a bit, but myself and my trusted assistant and second photographer John Erskine pretty much had it covered. For this wedding I asked one of my good friends Bernard Pretorius to get some photos of Eastwinter Gardens ahead of me arriving. I knew that as we were going to the lavender field we would probably be one of the last to arrive and so Bernard was able to get some photos of the venue before the 200+ guests arrived.
As it turned out the weather was amazing all day and probably one of the hottest days of the year so far. I came away from the Lavender field a few shades darker. When Adam told me that he had hired a Jaguar E-Type as their wedding car I was particularly excited, as a Jaguar lover myself there really aren’t many better cars out there.
After the Lavender field John and I made our way back to Canary Wharf for the wedding reception at East Winter Garden. This architecturally-striking domed glass hall, which was designed by César Pelli is a truly unique wedding venue in London. The Eastwinter Garden quite simply has that wow factor, and it has it in an abundance.
I would like to thank Bernard and John for their help on the day, as always it’s a great pleasure working alongside my second shooters and assistants. Also, it was great to work alongside Tony Slater from FullCircle Wedding Films, a true professional team of videographers.
